The Pump House has been the vibrant hub for community arts activities in Watford for over 50 years. During that time, we’ve become known as the home to the best local talent. We mix the quirky and eclectic with popular, quality entertainment from theatre and music to dance, comedy, the spoken word and visual art.
We used to be the old pumping station supplying water to the Watford area. In the early 1970s the building was converted to provide a theatre auditorium and rehearsal room and we’ve been entertaining audiences ever since. We’re all about arts for everyone – whatever your age or background.
We maybe a little theatre but we’ve got a big heart. We’re here to nurture new talent and champion the arts. As part of this, we’re the driving force behind the annual Watford Fringe Festival, which brings together great performances of theatre, music, comedy, dance, magic and family fun.
In these tough times, the arts are a social and emotional lifeline for our communities – and we’re proud to be home to diverse groups supporting children, those living with mental health problems, learning disabilities or dementia.
how we’re run
The Pump House Theatre and Arts Trust is a registered charity. It is run by a Board of Trustees led by chairman Lee Farman and is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers. A huge thank you to the dozens of individuals who give their time and expertise to help us run the show.
